Glauna UK appointed us to design, fabricate and install several permanent access fabrications for the new final effluent pumping station, Crossness Pumping Station, situated in Abbey Wood, London.
As part of the upgrade works to existing structures, our package included the installation of handrails, gates, access ladders, platforms, staircases, MCC flooring and structural steel components all guided by a fully coordinated 3D Design. All structures had to be designed under all of the relevant WIMEs standards, specifically 9.02, and Thames Water Asset Standards, with full structural calculations provided to ensure these standards were met.
All design was carried out and coordinated using 3D software and BIM to integrate with the client’s main design, avoiding clashes on-site and allowing most components to be prefabricated and installed in large sections. This approach significantly saved on down-time for the main client and is crucial when working in a busy operational site.
Crucial to smooth running of the contract is collaboration. We engaged in interdisciplinary review processes with Thames Water as required, and produced detailed fabrication drawings for all steelwork elements provided. All steelwork was carried out in accordance with ISO3834 and BS1090-2 certified welding quality management procedures. Daily and weekly interface meetings were held with the main client, contractors, and stakeholders to plan road closures, shutdowns, and site possessions
Collaborative reviews of RAMS and pre-start meetings ensured alignment across all project stakeholders and ensures that our working methods do not interrupt critical operations. Detailed scheduling ensured that essential operations at the pumping station remained unaffected throughout the project. On completion of these works, we were required to handover all required documentation, including quality records and declarations of performance.
All components were fabricated in our Kent workshop and installed by our own labour teams.
